A little of everything

It's been a bit since the last update. No worries, everyone is fine. I could go on and on about what we have been up too, and maybe I will later but, for now enjoy some new pictures.
House Hunting
Posted on Tuesday, May 06, 2008 at 11:52 PM CDT by Dan
We decided to start looking at houses a few weeks back and Whoa! Have we learned a lot. Since buying our first house in Iowa was such an easy process we figured that finding something in Minnesota would be no problem, especially since there is a glut of homes on the market. Boy were we wrong. We hadn't taken into account that since we've owned before we know what we are looking for, what quality constructions and upkeep looks like, what is easy to fix, what isn't and how many truly horrid homes are in the world.
If you don't believe me, take an hour or two this weekend and go to some open houses (not ones out of your reach, homes that you could actually make the payments on) . You'll be so happy when you get back to your place you'll never want to move. At least that's what's been happening to us. It's depressing when you get back to your rental town home and can say, "those houses made this place look like great, plus I don't have to mow the grass or shovel".
We're going to keep looking but, we're not holding our breath.

The things that toddlers say
Posted on Tuesday, May 06, 2008 at 9:41 PM CDT by Dan
Henrik says funny things on nearly a daily basis but, this one really made us laugh:
Mel - "why are you kicking the wall?"
Henrik - "because I'm getting good at it!"

Fresh haircut, new jacket and smile
Posted on Friday, May 02, 2008 at 12:23 AM CDT by Dan
Today Henrik and I when to Frankie's Barber Shop and both got new "summer haircuts". Joe, the Barber with 40 some years experience, I great. He knows how to get Henrik calm down so he can give him a "big boy" haircut. I think I may have mentioned in a previous post but, IMHO going to a "real" Barber is infinitely better than the 'kids hair" salons. A barber shop is an "Americana" cultural experience, a salon in a strip mall is well, lacking. One of the best things about going to Jo is when it's time for my cut, I just sit down and he goes to work while we talk - I've never even told him how I wanted my hair cut - he's just that good.
Welcome to my new art studio!

In an attempt to finally free Henrik of his attachment to his crib mattress still being in his room (the crib came down a few weeks ago) I promised him that we could get new toys to put in his room. Well, today I unveiled all the new stuff and Henrik and I assembled it. We put together a new table to and chairs set for crafts, setup an easel for painting/drawing, rolled out a rug that looks like a city with roads and buildings and setup a small train set. I took some pictures, take a look.

Gas vs. Milk
Posted on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 1:19 AM CDT by Dan
The other day while running errands I got to thinking about the cost if Milk and Gas. Milk prices have been going up steadily for a long time but, when it crossed the $4/gallon mark I thought to myself, “this is ridiculous”. Then, on the way home I drove past the gas station while MPR was interviewing some “expert” that predicted gas would get to $5/gallon this summer. Now I’m just wondering what will I be paying more for this summer, Milk or Gas?

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for a Joyous New Year!
Posted on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 2:42 AM CST by Melanie
2007 was another busy year for the Guentzel and Schlagels.
It never ceases to amaze how the days fly by. Melanie began her second
year at St.
Cloud State as the Director of Graduate Student Services. She is
also continuing to work toward completing her doctorate. Dan is still
enjoying his life as a stay-at-home dad. He and Henrik have kept busy
with play group, ECFE
classes, story
time, music
class and swimming.
Henrik is a busy two-year old with lots of opinions. He spends many
hours driving trucks, playing with his “guys” (a pack of stuffed
animals) and convincing Mom and Dan to “go outside” or to
“Tar-gey-Boutique”
We have spent lots of time at home this year in St. Cloud but also had several visits to Grandma Mary in New Brighton and a few visits to the cabin to see Grandma Evie and Grandpa Dick. We also enjoyed a long weekend in Chicago with Wendy, Dan, and “baby Alex.”
Henrik is turning into a true Minnesotan. He is warming up to snow and has great enthusiasm for shoveling and pushing his sled.

Happy Holidays!
As you may have noticed there has not been much activity on the site in some time.
I plan to catch up RSN in my copious free time. Seriously, there should be a deluge of new photos up soon so you can all view in wonder that is Henrik.
